My 'lil hunny pot

Asher was 5 months on Sunday!  He's growing so fast!  He loves rattles right now and anything that makes noise that he can control. He's still not rolled over, but he has rolled up onto his side at night and slept that way a couple times.  AND he's starting to get the hang of sitting up.  We think he may master that skill first!  He still jabbers all the time, trying out new consonant sounds everyday. He'll be a little talker, we think.

This is immediately after a nap. It is so much fun that he wakes up happy!

5 Months and Catch Up

Alright, we've got some catching up to do.  Life's been nice and busy lately, somewhat taking priority over the posting.  So here's a little catch up.  My thought is that I'll go backwards chronologically.  Hope that's cool with you.

Asher turned 5 months yesterday!  I would include a cute little picture with a "5 months" picture slapped across his chest, but we just never bought those.  Mainly because I didn't know where to look. Well, that was part of it.  And wouldn't you know it, we don't have any pictures from yesterday.  Or today.  Good thing tomorrow is picture Tuesday.

Asher got sick again too, but this time, just a cold or something.  Not sure what this kid has against staying healthy, but I'm going to have to talk some sense into him.
We got a high chair, which Asher now fits in.  It's pretty fun to see him in it, and he's just all about playing when he's in it.  It's a nice chair too.  A big thanks goes out to the grandma's on Meagan's side of the family for that one :)

We aso celebrated Asher's first Easter, in Clarinda at grandma and grandpa Anderson's.  We had some fun with them, as well as the cousins, aunts, and great grandma's!

Meagan, as always, was super excited for the Easter egg hunt...

..and so was Asher.

He was also a regular Picasso when it came to dying Easter eggs too.  Here he is with one of his creations.

Okay, I may have helped a bit.  But he was definitely there.

And finally, I give you the robin's nest that was built and occupied on one of our gutters.  Here is the view from our bedroom window.

I was excited to document the goings-on of the nest and the little chicks that would soon hatch, but sadly they disappeared one day.  I honesly don't know where they went.  There were no shells down below as clues.  I did see a squirrel running around with a tiny frying pan, but I have no concrete evidence.

So that's all for now, though I've got another video I want to load of this new thing Asher has been doing lately.  No, it's not tap dancing.  Yet.  I'll post it soon.

Sleep talking/walking

I'm not sure how many of you have experience with sleep talkers and walkers, but Eric is both. Usually it is a somewhat rare occurance for him, and occurs primarily after major life changes (getting married, Asher's birth), stress (buying our house, work challenges), or sleeping in a new place (my parents house at holidays, hotels).  Pretty much times when he's not sleeping very soundly. I've now discovered it also comes from sleep deprivation.  (Asher was up 5 times in 7 hours last night, and I wasn't exactly quiet about it.)

Regardless,  let me tell you, his sleep walking/talking can stir up a whole host of emotions.  Sometimes, when I'm super tired and know I'm not going to get enough sleep, I can get pretty irritated that his talking is waking me up.  Sometimes it can be spooky, like when I wake up in the middle of the night to him sitting straight up in bed, or even walking around in the bedroom.  But most times, like last night, it is absolute hilarity!  :)

I came back to bed at one-o-clock, after feeding Asher, to find Eric sitting up sideways in the middle of the bed.  And here is the dialogue that followed (to the best of my recollection):

Me: What are you doing?
Eric: Rubbing my eyes.
Me: Why?
Eric: I'm trying to get up.
Me: What are you going to do? (Still unsure if he's awake or asleep.)
Eric: I'm going to change the tire.  (Ummm... definitely asleep.)
Me:You're dreaming, go back to sleep.
Eric: No, I'm not.  You asked me to change the tire.
Me: No, I didn't. Why would I ask you to do that in the middle of the night?  It's one-o-clock.
Eric: Because, you asked me to change the tire on Asher's swing.
Me: Asher doesn't have a tire on his swing.
Eric: The tire that acts as the counterbalance on his swing.
Me: There's no tire on Asher's swing.
Eric: Oh good.  I really didn't want to get up.  (Mostly awake now.)
Me: You're funny.  Go to sleep.
Eric: I really didn't want to get up.

A few minutes later, when he thinks he's fully awake. You can almost see his half awake brain trying to rationalize his nonsensical dream talk.

Eric: You know if you think about it all, it does make sense.
Me: No, no, it doesn't. Go to sleep.

He continued to argue his point... but I had already fallen into a fit of giggles that kept me from falling back asleep for some time...

To his credit, we did have a flat tire on the car on Saturday and it did cause some stress for Eric.  BUT... this is Asher's swing.  Sorry, honey. No tire. :)

Anyway, just couldn't help not sharing some of the hilarity that ensues from our sleep deprived state of having an infant.  Let's see how much he remembers....

Sill Growing...

Today was my first of the weekly photo shoots with Asher, and I certainly enjoyed it.  I have a new appreciation for my wife, who does this every week.  He had just eaten so he was happy, but that also made him very... spewy.  His shirt started dry, but ended up not so much.  Enjoy!

In other developments, he sits a little now.  He'll topple pretty quickly, but he's getting there.  Also, we believe he recognizes his name.  I called it a couple times during this photo shoot, and his eyes snapped right to me!

Happy Birthday Eric!

Today's is Eric's 28th birthday!  I continue to be reminded of how blessed I am to have him in my life.

He's an wonderful husband.
He's my knight in shining armor, doing what he can to make my hopes and dreams become reality.  He's our spiritual leader, leading us to prayer when I'm stressing out.
He's my best friend, a blast to hang out with, no matter what we're doing.
He's an extremely competent and responsible manager of our finances.
He's an incredible father. So enthusiatic about everything Asher does, willing to help with just about anything, drags himself out of bed in the middle of the night, when I'm falling apart from sleep deprivation, just to be with me and offer to help.

I know without a shadow of a doubt that he would give just about anything for Asher and I, do anything for us, and there's no better feeling in the world than having the confidence that he is committed to us forever.  He's a man of extreme integrity and I love him more and more everyday!

Oh, and did I mention how gorgeous he is?!?!  I am one blessed women!   :)

I love you, honey! Happy Birthday!

My Spring Chick

We had a great Easter weekend with family, and I'll post some pics later this week.  Unfortunately, though, Asher has come down with a cold and has been running a temp of 101.5 for the last day or so. Thankfully it's nothing more serious, but we're still not quite 100%.   So I leave you with the pic of the week.  He's still as cute as ever... but I may a little biased. :)

Commenting

Just a quick note about the blog:

When we first started our blog, we realized that you had to have a google account (gmail, blogger, etc.) in order to comment... this is why many of you were unable to do so.  Eric discovered recently that that was just a setting you could choose, so we have now adjusted it so anyone can comment with just your name, or even anonymously!  Chalk it up to being new bloggers.  Sorry for any previous frustration, and we hope you'll try again!  We love hearing from you!

Waking Up

Asher is an absolute delight to us, awake and asleep.  He doesn't give us much trouble, and we're working on getting sleep patterns figured out.  Lately, one thing we have really been able to enjoy with our video monitor is him waking up.  He now wakes up in the morning happy and chatty.  It is seriously fun to watch and listen when he wakes up.  I caught it on video the other day, and figured I would share.  He was still in the swing sleeping slightly reclined after his hospital stay and drainage stuff.  Enjoy!

If any of you are thinking about getting a video baby monitor for your little one, I HIGHLY recommend it.  They are simply awesome.

Have a good weekend and Happy Resurrection Day!

Fun in the Sun!

We've been thoroughly enjoying the gorgeous early spring weather!  Going on walks nearly everyday, walking to the grocery store down the street, hanging out in the yard (in the shade, of course!), peering out the window at the flowers....  Thought I'd share some pics from this past Sunday!

Oops! Sun in the face!  HA! :)

Finally doesn't cry everytime we put him under the play gym! :)

What a weird week...

Sorry for the slow week. We've just been going through the everyday motions of life, attempting to keep the house clean, getting out and enjoying the nice weather, doing some yard work, playing with our little boy. I can hardly even remember anything specific about last week. Think I may have still been reeling from spending the previous week in the hospital. We were still doing nebulizer treatments every 4 hours most of this past week, and were pretty much tethered home so we could keep up with his medications, and get him back to 100%. My mom was here on Wednesday to help us piece things back together, and she babysat again so Eric and I could get out and see the Eternity play at our church. Thanks, Mom. Anyway, hopefully we can get a few more posts up this week.

As for Asher... He seems to be back in good health now! Praise God! He had his four month appointment on Monday (yesterday), a few weeks late, since we were in the hospital the day he was supposed to go in. All is well. He's 26 1/4 inches long. 16 1/2 pounds. We think he must have lost a little weight during our hospital stay, because he dropped from the 93rd percentile to the 75th in weight, but thankfully he had a little to spare. :) Height stayed pretty consistent from the 88th to the 85th percentile.    Anyway, here's his pic of the week.    (Oh... and last night he slept through the night from 9-6, after doing so for a week at the end of February and then forgetting how for a month!)

I loved the above pic, but then two seconds later he was like, "I'm SO over it, Mom."

Such a funny kid!  We love him. :)
