Happy first anniversary to...

OUR BLOG!!! :)

One year ago today we posted this post, our very first one ever! We were 7 months pregnant with our little boy--- though we didn't know he was a boy at the time! :) I can remember the excitement and anticipation like it was yesterday! And now we've got an adorable 10 month old who's crawling all over the place, getting into places he shouldn't. :) One of his faves is lifting off the vent covers and sticking his arm down the vents - the metal edges underneath are so sharp, it scares me that he'll slice his arm off! We've got to find a way to secure those! That's one thing we didn't think about when child proofing our home!

I checked our blogs stats and was initially shocked to see that our blog has been viewed 9,646 times! What??? Almost 10,000 times in just one year?!! That's amazing! Then I did some quick math and realized that that just meant only about 26 people would have had to have viewed it daily. I figure Eric and I probably contribute to 4-6 views a day, which drops it back to only about 20 people a day, give or take a few. And I figure that some family members probably view our blog several times on any given Tuesday if they're checking for our weekly pic. :) Better than no readers though I guess!!! :)

Nevertheless, we will continue writing since we're doing this for family and close friends anyway - to keep up with Asher's developments and what not. :) I would continue joyfully posting for Asher's great grandma Marge, even if she were the only one who ever read it, because she checks it often and told me that reading our blog is the best part of her day. (Love you grandma!)

We've enjoyed posting and recording our memories as a digital baby book that comes in handy when trying to remember when he first smiled or cut his first tooth in order to record such things in his physical baby book! And I of course just love writing for practice as I've wanted to write a book since I was about 5. Eric bought me a book on writing for my birthday, and I guess this counts as practice or something. :)

So hurrah for our blog and our delightful little baby boy who inpsires us to write. Here are a few pics to make your reading worthwhile. :)

Reading by himself!!!

Bath time!!!

Threw a "Little Man" Baby shower for a dear friend.  Tried a left over mustache on our little guy!  Guess he was sleepier than we thought!

Crawling under the table!

Can he get any cuter?

Oh, guess he can. :)

Anyway thanks for joining us on this journey of blogging, writing, parenting, and some occasional randomness this past year!

Funny, funny, funny...

I rather think this video speaks for itself.  Who knows what he was thinking.  :)   Just started doing this at dinner the other night...

Weekly pic- 10 months, 1 week (Sorry, can't think of a title)

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Quick qualifier on our last post about coloring.  A friend commented on our last post saying "I've never thought about giving my babies crayons, because doesn't he put them in his mouth?"  Good point, but ummm... guess I forgot to mention, Asher doesn't put things in his mouth.  HUGE blessing when it comes to toys and not worrying about what's on the floor.  HUGE issue when we try to get him to feed himself!   He can pick those cheerios up with the most perfect pincer grasp, but he's yet to put a single one in his mouth.  And he LOVES cheerios.  Here's a list of the things Asher puts by himself into his mouth:
   1. His fingers.

I guess any day that could change and he'll surprise me and have a big piece of something gross in his mouth off the ground... but for now, we try to remember to appreciate the blessing side of it when we're at the dinner table!

In other news, he continues to increase his mobility.  He army crawls all the way across the living room floor now.  Though he often gets stuck under the coffee table crying 'cause he can't get out without continuously bonking his head. Poor guy. It's fun seeing him scoot all over the place, though! :)

Enjoy the pic!  Oh and check out the two little teeth!!!!

Coloring!

So I promised the story about Asher's coloring.  I had read in a baby book that around 9 months a baby could start holding a crayon and coloring.  So I, of course, started trying to introduce that skill, oh, around 5 months.  Umm... 1st child syndrome???  Anyway he hadn't really taken to it when we'd tried.  (Big surprise there, huh?)

Then last week, I was sitting by Asher while he played, writing a list of some sort (I'm ALWAYS making lists), and I left my pencil and pad of paper on the floor when I got up to do something... and didn't think anything of it.

I came back a few minutes later to find him pencil in hand, scribbling on my paper!

Not only had he sought out the pencil, but he knew what he was supposed to do with it!  I was in shock and awe.  I traded out the pencil for a crayon, for safety purposes of course, and left him to his coloring.  Maybe not my best idea ever, because, of course, I came back to crayon all over half his toys...  Thank goodness for Magic Eraser (and for my summer job at that daycare back in college that taught me that Magic Eraser will easily remove crayon from most surfaces!), and thankful for the fact that it wasn't the walls that he'd chosen to practice on.  Anyway even though I'd read what I'd read in my book, and Asher is nearly 10 months now, we were still pretty amazed.  :)

Since then, it's become an additional toy/activity that we provide, under supervision now... and he simply adores coloring!   :)   And we, of course, adore watching him.

A few of his scribbles. :)

My grocery list became all kinds of more beautiful... :)

10 months already?!

Our baby boy will be 10 months on Saturday!  That's hard to believe!   His newest accomplishments include discovering volume (his babbling I think just got twice as loud), coloring (yes, he colors by himself and adores it! I have the best story about that that I'll share soon), getting a second tooth (he's now got both bottom teeth sprouting), and as of this morning started "crawling" (by which I mean scooting)!  He's an absolute delight!

The extreme stranger/separation anxiety rages on, which doesn't affect me much during the daily goings on, but there is no handing him off to anyone when we're outside of the house unless we want him to cry until he can't breathe.  Makes it difficult to leave him with a sitter, but thankfully he'll do "okay" with familiar people in our own home.  A good thing since I'm on jury duty this month and next.  Nursery on Sunday mornings, though, definitely not okay.  I think it's been three months since I've been able to sit through an entire church service... alas, I comfort myself by remembering that everything is just a phase...

We're starting to brainstorm Halloween costumes and 1st birthday party plans (can that really be just around the corner?!?) ...it's going to be a fun fall!

The adorable outfit he's wearing is marked 3-6 months... but during that phase of his life it was pretty huge on him (and he is/was not a small boy).  I was worried that by the time cool weather returned he'd have grown out of it and barely gotten to wear it, but to my surprise, it fits perfectly!  Thanks again to Aunt Lyndsey and Uncle Brandon!  He's worn it once before for a Tuesday pic, click here to see! It's worth a peek to see how much he's changed! :)

Happy Tuesday!  Get out and enjoy the cool weather!

Late yet again

Well, another busy week has yielded another late post, so sorry!   Asher continues to get bigger and bigger, and look like more and more of a little boy.  Enjoy :)

By the way, did you know my eyes are blue...

Last minute Tuesday pic

A picture is worth a thousand words... what to say... I do not know.  It's getting late and my cleverness is running thin, and I can't think of anything to write.  But isn't he adorable?!

Asher looking around me to smile at Eric being silly behind me...  I'm just not as funny, I guess. :)   So cute!
